Project Status
At the November 8, 2023 Traffic Safety Committee Meeting, the feasibility of alternative solutions for the operating conditions of the Palos Verdes Drive West (PVDW) corridor, which is the portion of PVDW from and including the intersection of PVDW and Palos Verdes Drive North (the “triangle”) and the intersection of PVDW and Via Corta, will be discussed. Please come to the Traffic Safety Committee Meeting at City Hall on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 6:30pm to participate in the discussion and provide feedback through Public Comment.
Project Overview
In 2019, the City of Palos Verdes Estates commissioned a Feasibility Study of the Palos Verdes Drive West / Via Corta intersection to identify potential solutions to reducing traffic congestion. The focus of the Feasibility Study was to study existing conditions and develop concept alternatives. Design objectives included:
- Improving safety
- Improving circulation between the Triangle and Via Corta intersections
- Simplifying traffic movements
- Reducing corridor congestion
- Relieving traffic bottlenecks caused by the existing corridor configuration and improve traffic operations
- Reducing corridor delays
- Improving safety for all modes of transportation
- Improving pedestrian and bicycle connectivity through the project limits
- Eliminating cut-through traffic
- Minimizing impacts on surrounding uses
