Sanford S. Davidson

The Honorable Sanford S. Davidson, M.D., FACS is serving his first term on the City Council. He has lived in Palos Verdes Estates for 41 years and is married to Joan Davidson who served 8 years on the Board for the Palos Verdes Unified School District.

Dr. Davidson was born and raised in New York City and attended NYU for his undergraduate degree in English Literature. He then attended SUNY Buffalo for his medical degree. Following Medical School, Dr. Davidson spent 2 years in the military during the Vietnam War. He then returned to New York City where he trained for 3 years to be an eye surgeon at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, one of the oldest and most prestigious eye hospitals in the world. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Councilmember Davidson and his wife are blessed with three wonderful children all of whom attended PVPUSD schools. Their eldest is a Professor and Dean of Faculty at a University in Cambridge Mass. Their middle child is a Pediatric Allergist in Redondo Beach, and their youngest is a journalist who writes for the Wall Street Journal. Dr. and Mrs. Davidson presently have 6 grandchildren.

Councilmember Davidson and his family moved to Palos Verdes Estates because of its beauty, openness and wonderful schools. He has served as a Trustee of the Palos Verdes Library District and a coach of every sport possible in PVE.

Dr. Davidson practices Ophthalmology in Riviera Village and is a Professor of Ophthalmology at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute where he has taught for many years. He has also served as an Admissions Committee Chairman at the UCLA School of Medicine for over 30 years.

Councilmember Davidson’s goals on the Council are to serve rather than rule our residents to ensure honesty, transparency and fiscal integrity for our City in order to maintain its beauty, openness and uniqueness. He will always be available to our residents to hear their concerns.
