Jennifer L. King  Welcome to our Palos Verdes Estates website.

A “gem by the sea,” the City of Palos Verdes Estates is comprised of four residential areas—Lunada Bay, Malaga Cove, Montemalaga, and Valmonte—nestled within approximately 850 acres of open space. Featured in Lunada Bay and Malaga Cove are small neighborhood, pedestrian-oriented business plazas that serve our local community. As recreational venues, the City is home to an award winning Golf Club with public dining and banquet facilities, a 12-court Tennis Club, a Beach and Athletic Club, and Stables with boarding, riding lessons and trail rides. The City also has miles of shoreline with picturesque bluff-top views and neighborhood walking paths. In addition to these amenities, a premier School District is attractive for families, a peninsula wide bus transit system makes getting around easy, and a local public library provides opportunities for community engagement.

The commitment of many volunteer residents who serve as a part of our City government and the dedication of our hardworking City staff are key to our City’s success. Our five-member City Council works collaboratively with our volunteers and staff for the delivery of municipal services, while focusing on certain broad principles to help guide its decisions.

Commonality. What do our residents share? What makes Palos Verdes Estates such a desirable place to live? The importance of public safety is a common value our residents share. For this reason, the City is committed to public safety and endeavors to provide our outstanding police department with the tools it needs to be as effective as possible. Leading up to March 2017, our residents will also work together in consideration of renewing the parcel tax that pays for our fire and paramedic services. The City prides itself for its excellent paramedic/fire response for emergency medical, fire suppression and fire prevention services

Communication. Our City is focused on improving its communication. In mid-2016 the City will be updating its website and simultaneously developing its presence on social media. The City also plans to provide training for its residents who may not be computer savvy. In addition to providing information, the City hopes to obtain information by implementing a community survey.

Consistency. A goal of the City Council and staff is to ensure that residents receive consistent and predictable information. City staff has been working diligently to memorialize processes that were the subject of only verbal institutional knowledge. The City Council will continue to work not only with staff but also with the Planning Commission and committees to make sure that residents are receiving consistent message from each group. The City further expects that its recent hiring of a full-time, in-house engineer will contribute to consistency.

Creativity. The City is committed to working creatively for the effective and efficient development and implementation of projects, sustaining fiscal reserves and accomplishing outcomes within existing resources. New initiatives this year include the Citizens Academy that provides interested residents an opportunity to learn about how the City works and to become more engaged in civic affairs, the development of a five-year capital plan for long term planning, and the exploration of other creative ways to enhance and invigorate our commercial areas.

Please explore our website to learn more about our community. And don’t hesitate to contact City staff with any questions. The City welcomes the involvement of its residents.
