The Palos Verdes Estates Internship Program is an unpaid academic driven program that provides a unique opportunity for participants to gain valuable professional experience and build leadership skills through practical application. This program provides a hands-on opportunity for future leaders who aspire to work in public service to strengthen their understanding of the City of Palos Verdes Estates and prepare them for their future.

The Intern Highlight Series will feature our interns who work behind-the-scenes with staff and have opportunities to interact with the public as a representative of the City.

Intern Highlight Series: Pallav Chaturvedi

Name: Pallav Chaturvedi

School: Junior at Palos Verdes High School

Department(s): Rotating through Police Department, City Clerk, etc.

How has your understanding of local government changed?

My understanding of local government has changed in that I have discovered the many different functions of the City’s government. Before starting my internship, I thought that there was City Hall and that was it. Now I understand that it takes several different departments, working together, to successfully run a city. I have also witnessed how the decisions that City employees make have a direct impact on the lives of its residents and how big a voice residents have in the decisions the City makes.

What were you most surprised about interning at a government office?

What I was most surprised by is the level of interaction between residents and City employees on a daily basis. In the police department alone, I have been able to observe the role that the City plays in the residents’ lives through community activities, which include house checks and the PVE-CARES senior program.

If you see Pallav at City Hall, please say hello!
