The Palos Verdes Estates Internship Program is an unpaid academic driven program that provides a unique opportunity for participants to gain valuable professional experience and build leadership skills through practical application. This program provides a hands-on opportunity for future leaders who aspire to work in public service to strengthen their understanding of the City of Palos Verdes Estates and prepare them for their future.

The Intern Highlight Series will feature our interns who work behind-the-scenes with staff and have opportunities to interact with the public as a representative of the City.

Intern Highlight Series: Matin Razepoor

Matin 1

Name: Matin Razepoor

School: Palos Verdes High School

Department(s): City Clerk, Police Department

How has your understanding of local government changed?

I’ve gone from having no idea of how a City government is run, to having a comprehensive understanding of municipal functions and how they affect members of our community. Initially, I was unsure of whether City government had any practical role in our daily lives compared to the federal or even state government. I knew it existed, but I didn’t know if it was useful – now I have recognized its uses and to a small extent its inefficiencies.

What were you most surprised about interning at a government office?

What surprised me most about City government was how involved the community is, not only with the council, but with those who work in the City Hall. I have the pleasure of meeting great people and have learned a lot about how the City Clerk’s job is performed.

If you see Matin at City Hall, please say hello!
